Welcome to my first newsletter, I’m about to be really bad at this. Introductions:
I’m Amber (she/her), romance author and generally geeky gal. My debut novel, Beginner’s Guide to Sexting, is coming next year from Alcove Press. We’re moving along, crossing publishing things off the checklist behind the scenes, so I figured it made sense to get this thing up and running now! You can expect:
Rambling book updates
Weird jokes
What I’m reading
Random memes
Nerd content
Science facts you didn’t wanna hear
Who knows, it’s a surprise to both of us
You in? Neat.
About me
I live in Vermont with my husband, kids, and cats. I’ve got a little writing room that’s literally a crawl space that we turned into an author cave—desk, comfy chair, string lights, candles… boom done. It’s where I write snarky main characters and love interests worth bantering with. They’re nerds, they’re awkward, they’re people I seriously wish existed in real life because I’d want to be friends with them.
My book?!
Ohyeahright, I should talk about that. Beginner’s Guide to Sexting (coming fall 2023—stick around to get deets and sneak peeks at all the good stuff!) is about an introverted programmer who loses her job after accidentally displaying an unsolicited 🍆📸 during a presentation, then takes up sexting to pay the bills—even though she’s never sexted in her life and she’s kinda/sorta/totally all up in her own head about it. But, with friends’ encouragement—and some D&D style inspiration—she totally nails her text-message-based sexting gig. Then her best friend, who she’s had a crush on since college, makes a move and she’s scrambling to balance a relationship and an inbox filled with spicy chats.
What inspired it? Too many unsolicited 🍆📸 in my messages, not enough 🧠💬.
Latest news
None. Nothing. Move along. I just gave you all the updates. Here’s a nerdy joke instead:
Latest faves
I’m reading: I’ll be finishing The Ex Talk by Rachel Lynn Solomon as soon as I hit send on this draft. I recently finished an ARC of the spicy/sweet Santa, Baby: A Very Merry Novella by Eliza McLane and it was spectacular. (preorder for 99 cents, what?!)
I’m writing revising: A f/f fake dating destination rom-com. It’s, uh, the roughest of rough drafts and it needs some serious attention. But I love it anyway.
I’m listening to: Deftones, Around the Fur. On repeat. Forever.
So anyway, this concludes my very first newsletter. Maybe I’ll figure out what this space is all about, or maybe I’ll take you on occasional rides via stream-of-consciousness posts like this one.
